Global venture funding edges up in 2024 as AI booms

Crunchbase reports global venture funding in 2024 totaled $314 billion, about 3% higher than in 2023. This matches pre-pandemic levels and exceeds 2019’s total. Late in the year, several mega-rounds pushed the total up.

AI Breakout

Artificial intelligence companies dominated investments. Nearly one-third of 2024’s capital went to AI startups, with total AI funding exceeding $100 billion – an 80% jump from 2023. About one-third of AI funding was aimed at foundation-model ventures.
